Welcome back to the third ICYMI blog for the year. We are so close to Team ‘25, starting in a little over a week. I will be making my way out there in just a few days so if you are going, let’s meet up!

But enough about Team. There will be more on this next week for sure. Let’s get back to having a look over the last month to see what Atlassian have been up to.

Highlights

Atlassian have released over 100 new functionality changes within the last month according to their in product updates list (full list below). But this month has seen a huge improvement around Atlassian admin and platform level changes. Before we kick off with product updates, there is a key announcement for anyone holding Atlassian Data Centre exams.

Due to the shift to Cloud, Atlassian will be retiring these two Data Center (DC) certifications in the coming months:

•Atlassian Certified Professional ‑ Jira Administration for Data Center

•Atlassian Certified Professional ‑ Managing Jira Projects for Data Center

Work Management & Collaboration

Improvements to issue exporting is here! You can now export up to 10,000 issues in a single csv format. Starting March 6th, Atlassian has started to roll out to all instances the ability to do even more mass data exporting. However, they do say for a more smoother experiences, they recommend optimising the query as much as possible and limit the number of fields you may need to export.

Along side the improvements to data exporting, Atlassian Intelligence, is now able to also help fix your JQL queries. If you sometimes struggle to get a working JQL statement, AIntelligence will now review what you have and apply any fixes you need to get it working again.

Public forms have now been announced for ALL Jira software and business type projects. Starting its roll out in April, Jira projects will soon have access to share forms to anyone regardless of licensing. “The goal of public forms is to simplify your intake processes, facilitating the collection of feedback and requests from various stakeholders, including: internal teams from different departments, contractors, agencies, customers, and more”. What do you think about it?

REPLIES ON COMMENTS IS HERE! You’ll now have the ability to directly in-line reply to comments on an issue. This should massively help keep track on conversation threads, especially where there may be multiple on the go. This may cause a fall for some marketplace apps, but is great to continue seeing improvements to the native platform.

Service Management

Assets are getting and improved look on the JSM portal.

Previously, the Assets object field displayed the label of the object, plus any other displayed field values as the text when picking an object from a drop-down. This was difficult to read, so now the field displays only the label when picking an object from a drop-down.

• Previously, the detail view of an Assets object in Jira Service Management showed only the text values; we've now expanded this to show a card view similar to that shown in the agent view, including the label and the avatar.

• Admins have the ability to add attributes to display in the Custom field configuration screen, by editing their field configuration and selecting Object attributes to display on customer portal request details view. They can then add multiple attributes to display in the details view.

Atlassian has released some new automation functionality along the lines of their playbooks. These playbooks are designed to help your agents react quickly to incidents, with the predefined instruction manual that can be made of both manual checkboxes and automated steps. The aim is to provide better guidance to your agents as well as have more of an automated approach to playbooks, rather then them just being Confluence page. Platform

Some big improvements coming to the Atlassian administration and Rovo this month. First up is the ability to now connect your AD SCIM synced groups to Teams. This change will, in my opinion, make teams relevant. The ability to remove a lot of the manual effort of keeping teams up to date will make this a more reliable way of understanding the makeup of your organisations. HOWEVER, this will I’m sure for many teams increase the number of groups brought over by A LOT. When making this change, make sure to keep an eye on your sync status and check if it is keeping up with the new load, as I myself have had issues with this in the past. Atlassian made this change in order to improve the reliability and create a centralised source of truth for team membership. Any teams connected to a group can only be managed through either the group page or the external directory, and any changes will automatically be reflected in the team. These teams will be described as "Managed teams", and will also have a verified, blue checkmark icon to show its connected status.

Admins can now see the number of indexed objects from connected data sources within Rovo. Atlassian made this aim with the idea of improving visibility for customers to understand their current usage rates in line with the quotas. If you are using Rovo, inside the admin.com settings, you can now find your number of indexed objects. Below I have also included your indexing quotas:

Admins now have better controls around how mobile app sessions work for their users and instances. Rolling out this month, admins can now better set how long mobile app sessions per authentication policy. This then applies to any managed account. Authentication policies all saw some other love with improvements on the ability to mass manage any API tokens.
You can now mass revoke API tokens from your authentication policies. This functionality allows you to quickly react to potential threats associated with user API tokens for all managed accounts with the policy.

Finally, the audit log has had a great improvement with a 3-in-1 combo. All three are related to how third party apps act on behalf of users. This is to create a better understanding of what changes are actually happening within your instance, as well as who truly kicked them off.

First up is the improvements to filter for third party application actions.:

The actor filter has been expanded to include a "Third-party application" option. This enhancement allows users to specifically search for and focus on actions initiated by third-party applications within the system.

Second on our list is how this is represented within the log with enhanced representation indicator. Designed to create better clarity and accountability for app activities, you can now easily determine when an app has performed actions as a representative of a specific user.

'As User' Indicator: Whenever an app acts on behalf of a user, an 'As User' label will be displayed next to the app's name in the activity log. This visual cue allows you to quickly identify instances of user representation by apps.

For further details about the user being represented, simply hover over the 'As User' indicator.

A tooltip will appear, providing additional information about the user, such as their name and relevant identifiers, ensuring you have all the necessary context at your fingertips.

Finally we come to the exporting of this information.

Third-Party Application Identification: The CSV export now includes a dedicated attribute for identifying third-party applications. The 'actor' field will display 'Third-party application' as the email value, allowing you to easily distinguish actions performed by external apps from those performed by users.

User Proxy Actions: In scenarios where a third-party application acts on behalf of a user, additional details are now captured. The CSV export will include fields for 'User Name' and 'User Email,' providing clarity on which user the application is acting for. This ensures that all activities are accurately attributed, enhancing accountability and auditability.
